Manipulating Axioms

Aperture Manipulation
These two shots demonstrate the manipulation of aperture to accentuate the subject.
Here Nick is the subject so he is in focus leaving the background to blur.
Here the focus is narrowed from the individual to the ball by a shallower depth of field.

Shutter Speed Manipulation
These four are ordered from fastest to slowest shutter speed.

Shooting at 1/1000 of a second froze even the ball in flight but didn't allow for much light to enter the camera, the backlit subject was completely dark and even thought this was able to be remedied in editing it left the colors washed out.
Here our subject is in focus and the colors are much better than the first. The ball and pitching hand have motion blur, but the ball is discernible and it tells the story of a ball in flight.

Here again we have a clear subject, however the ball and hand are more blurred.

At a slower shutter the ball becomes less discernible.
